Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Set to Donate LGBT Pride Flag to Valentine Richmond History Center

RICHMOND, Va. (May 25, 2012) – The Valentine Richmond History Center and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond announce that the LGBT Pride flag that flew outside the Bank in June 2011 will be donated to the museum next month.  The Valentine has been collecting, preserving and interpreting Richmond’s history and diverse stories for over a century. Richmond History Tours 2012 Season Kicks Off April 1


RICHMOND – March 5, 2012 –
The Valentine Richmond History Center is pleased to announce the 2012 Richmond History Tours season formerly referred to as Historic Richmond Tours.  The name was changed this year to align the program with the History Center’s name.  The History Center offers more than 370 opportunities to explore Richmond history on foot or by bus. Tour topics vary and include the neighborhoods, architecture, churches, movie theaters, retail districts, monuments, cemeteries, waterways and people that make the city unique. All guides are trained and certified by the History Center. Read more

History Center Announces 2011 History Makers Honorees

RICHMOND-The 7th Annual Richmond History Makers Program pays tribute to everyday citizens and outstanding organizations that make significant contributions to the greater Richmond region. Miller & Rhoads Wagon Restoration

RICHMOND — The Valentine Richmond History Center is pleased to partner with the Hilton Garden Inn Richmond Downtown to bring the museum’s Miller & Rhoads delivery wagon back into public view after many years in storage. Read more

Cased Image Collection Now Online

RICHMOND—The Valentine Richmond History Center is pleased to announce that more than 500 items from its Cased Image Collection are now available for review online. The History Center’s online collections database is free, accessible to the public and currently contains 15 percent of the entire collection. Additional records are added on a routine basis. Cased images are early types of photography that include daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes. Images are taken on glass or metal and generally enclosed in decorative cases.
