About the Collections Database
As a public institution, the Valentine strives to serve through education and access to the Museum’s collection. Please be aware that the collections database is a work in progress. Only a portion of the Valentine’s collection is available online to view. However, our digitization efforts are ongoing, so be sure to check back regularly.

The Valentine reserves the right to take all action or inaction as allowed by law. If any term, condition, or provision of these terms and conditions of use is determined to be unlawful, invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, the validity and enforceability of the remaining terms, conditions, and provisions shall not in any way be affected or impaired thereby. These terms and conditions of use constitute the entire representation made by the Valentine relating to the subject matter herein. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Virginia. Each party hereby irrevocably consents to exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Virginia.
The Valentine shall not be liable for damages of any kind including, without limitation, compensatory, special, incidental, exemplary, lost profits, loss of revenue, and/or use of or reliance upon this site or the content hereof. In addition, the Valentine has no duty to update this site, or the content thereof, and the Valentine shall not be liable for any failure to update such information. Further, the Valentine is neither responsible nor liable for your use of other websites that you may access via links within this site.
The copyright law of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted works. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” the user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Valentine reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law. The granting of permission to publish by the Valentine does not absolve users of materials from securing permission from copyright owners and payment of such additional fees as the owners may require if the Valentine does not own the copyright or if the material is not in the public domain. Applicants assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasions of privacy that may arise in copying and in the use made of the photographic copy.
