Capitol Square Grounds and Statues Teacher Professional Development Workshop

August 10 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

Take a walk on Capitol Square and hear about the history of the monuments on the grounds of our state Capitol, including the Washington Equestrian Monument, the Civil Rights Monument, The Mantle: Virginia Indian Tribute, Voices from the Garden: Virginia Women’s Monument, Harry F. Byrd’s statue and more. Whose voices are uplifted by these monuments and whose are missing? How does public memory change over time?

Join the Valentine for Teacher Professional Development workshops and learn creative ways to incorporate Richmond stories in your classroom as you explore national and local history. All programs are free and participants will be provided with a $10 gift card to Miss. Bee’s Cafe, a Valentine Membership and Certificate of Professional Development Hours.

This program will start at the Valentine.  Parking is available in the lot behind the museum and will be validated upon completion of the program.  Please wear comfortable walking shoes and your mask and bring a water bottle.

Registration is requried. You can register HERE.
