Beginning in 1824, the Marquis de Lafayette, the last surviving general of the Revolutionary War, made a tour of the United States of America. Virginians and Richmonders received him as a hero. He was welcomed with dances, monuments, and ceremony held in his honor every stop along the way.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Lafayette’s visit to Richmond, The Valentine will be exploring the ways Richmonders dressed in the 1820s. Come join us for a glimpse at the fashion, style, and splendor of Richmond over two centuries ago.
Did you know that museums typically have less than 10% of their collection on view at a time? Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the Valentine’s new storage and access spaces during this series. View selections from the Valentine’s holdings currently not on exhibit and learn about the fascinating Richmond stories behind them.
Space is limited and registration is required. This is a ticketed event.
