Young Richmond History Makers Award
As a part of the Valentine’s 20th annual Richmond History Makers (RHM) 2025 program, we’re excited to include an award specifically for students. As a way to help celebrate the youngest Richmonders serving their community, we hope to provide an avenue to recognize a student making history in their own unique way.
Only one student will be identified as the Valentine’s 2025 Young Richmond History Maker. The student chosen will receive a monetary award of $1,000 and be recognized at our Richmond History Makers event at the Valentine on April 10, 2024.
We’re looking for a student who embodies compassionate leadership, dedication to community (think service, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, etc.), and who uplifts those around them. Are they bold? Innovative? Creative? Service-oriented? These are the extraordinary student leaders we want to recognize. To assist you, here are four categories you can refer to that align with the main RHM categories. Consider nominating students committed to:
- Improving Their Neighborhood
- Helping Their Classmates Learn
- Supporting Community Businesses or Organizations
- Working to Keep Their Neighbors Healthy

Nominations: The student must be in grades 6-12, and nominations will only be accepted from educators or community leaders with direct ties to the student. Nominations will be accepted from September 16 through November 30, 2024.
Selection: After the nomination window closes, the Valentine’s Teacher Fellows advisory group, made up of Richmond Region educators, will review the nominations for content, quality, impact, and alignment with the categories. We will announce the winning student no later than January 15, 2025. The nominator and the nominee will be informed at the same time.
Monetary Award: The Valentine will award $1,000 to the student selected as the 2025 Young Richmond History Maker. Although no restrictions are placed on this award, it is our hope that this money will be used to support the efforts the student is being recognized for, or for anything that enhances their personal growth including programs, camps or related expenses.
