We offer multiple ways to bring Richmond history resources into your classroom, from outreach educator visits to learning trunks with hands-on materials delivered to your school and live virtual tours using classroom technology. All programs and resources are compatible with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and are free for Title 1 schools. Let’s explore how we can connect your students with our resources!
Outreach Programs
Valentine educators visit your classroom with customizable programs that engage students in examining primary source documents, recreation artifacts and programming materials from the Valentine’s collection.

Valentine Learning Trunks
A “museum-in-a-box” experience delivered directly to your classroom! Each trunk includes reproduction artifacts and primary sources, activities, supplemental digital content and suggested lesson plans for integrating this hand-on experience into your curriculum. Teachers can inquire about borrowing a trunk before or after a field trip to build upon the learning experience.

Virtual Visits
Visit the museum using classroom technology. Our live virtual tours engage students in looking at museum objects in a format that is interactive, inquisitive and fun for all ages. Most museum field trips can be offered as a virtual program.
Young Historians in the Field
Young Historians in the Field
We collaborate with a select number of schools each year to create project-based learning experiences. Using primary sources documents from museum’s collection, sharpen your students’ research and literacy skills during this multi-visit outreach program.
In-School Program Fees & Details
- 60 minute outreach program | $5 per student
- Learning trunks | $60 flat rate per school with delivery within 30 miles of the Valentine. Schools located more than 30 miles away may be asked to pay for additional mileage.
- Virtual visits | $50 flat rate per program
- Programs are always free for RPS and Title 1 schools. Funding available based on need for other programs upon request.
- Learning Trunks and Virtual Visits can be added on to a field trip for a pre or post-visit experience.
