RICHMOND, VA – Explore exciting new stories in the Valentine’s This Is Richmond, Virginia (TIRVA) exhibition. Opened in 2014, TIRVA is an ongoing exhibition that explores what defines a city. Once a year, the museum rotates objects and graphics in the exhibition to highlight recent acquisitions and share new Richmond Stories.
The What Do We Produce? section now highlights nationally recognized Richmond-made products like Girl Scout cookies, Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches, Sabra hummus, Reynolds Wrap, DuPont Kevlar, Juul, Robitussin, and Chap Stick. Local favorites such as Duke’s Mayonnaise, Sauer’s Vanilla, Ruby Scoops, Adolf Jewelers, Chicken Fiesta, and Sally Bell’s are also featured.
In Who Has a Voice? new additions include a Richmond Times-Dispatch strike poster, a 1940s child labor permit, and a Service Employees International Union yard sign, emphasizing Richmond’s labor and activism history.
The Where Do We Live? section now showcases a Manchester collar case from a Jewish-owned business and a newly acquired image of Oregon Hill, celebrating the diversity of the city’s neighborhoods.
Of the 23 new objects and graphic images added to the exhibition, 15 have been acquired by the museum within the past two years. These updates reflect the Valentine’s ongoing commitment to collecting and sharing stories that resonate with contemporary audiences while honoring Richmond’s rich and multifaceted history.
