RICHMOND, VA – In celebration of Religious Freedom Day, the Valentine will host Jeffrey Rosen as part of the Life, Liberty & Happiness: New Perspectives on Founding Ideas lecture series on Thursday, January 16th from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This series is an exploration of the evolution and contemporary relevance of America’s founding philosophies and highlights scholars whose work contributes to reinterpreting what “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” means today.
Jeffrey Rosen is the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, where he hosts We the People, a weekly podcast of constitutional debate. In his recent book, The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America, Rosen considers what pursuing happiness meant for the founders, and how these Enlightenment notions continue to shape our lives today.
The first lecture of the 2025 season of Life, Liberty & Happiness will be hosted at the Library of Virginia at 800 E. Broad Street. The public can purchase tickets and a copy of Rosen’s book here. Admission to this event is free for Valentine members, students and teachers.
