Hands-on programs for students of all ages. Summer programs are available June – August on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays, both onsite and as outreach.

Program fees:
Groups of 15 students and greater: $5 per student
Groups of 14 students and fewer: $70 minimum onsite and off

Reservations are required. $25 deposit per program due to reserve your visit.

2020 Summer Programs

Design in Time (ages 4-7)
Play with patterns and colors while exploring shapes and textures found in the houses we live, the clothes we wear, and the art we make . For onsite visits this program includes a tour through our Costumes and Textiles exhibition, The Roaring Twenties! 

Summer Games and Sunday Toys (ages 6-9)
Play games from the past and learn about the daily life of children in the 1800’s.

History Mysteries: Secrets in the Museum (ages 7-12)
Discover mysteries hidden in the Valentine collection and learn about Richmond’s very own spies.

Curation and Creation: Block Prints: (ages 6 and up)  Discover how a rat’s nest found in the 1812 Wickham House led our curators to learn all about wallpaper design.  Students explore the museum, get hands-on history experience and create their own wallpaper print.

Capitol Square and Figures of Freedom Walking Tour (ages 9 and up)
Beginning at Capitol Square, learn about the people that impacted freedoms in Virginia and the nation. Includes a tour of the Valentine museum or First Freedom Center.

Wickham House and Galleries (modified for all ages)
Enjoy a guided scavenger hunt through the museum galleries and a tour of the 1812 Wickham House!
