Creating Suffrage Memes

Lesson Plan: Using postcards from the early 20th century, students will explore basic propaganda techniques used in the suffrage debate and create memes to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, or to encourage all citizens to vote.

Discover Richmond history, have fun and earn recertification hours! The Valentine offers free teacher professional development opportunities to K-12 teachers in the Richmond region. Find public teacher workshops on our event calendar or submit a request for your school or district and we’ll be happy to organize a program based on your interest and availability.

Valentine Teacher Fellowship

Valentine Teacher Fellows gain professional development experience while making a tangible impact on museum programming. Fellows develop educational resources based on the museum’s collection, assess programs and support summer teacher workshops. The Fellowship program is offered every summer and teachers receive a stipend of $3,000.
