The Valentine Announces New Admission Prices

The Valentine will operate under new admission prices starting July 1, 2015.
Adults are $10 per person and groups, seniors (55+) and students are $8 per person. The new pricing structure includes free admission for all active duty military and children under the age of 18.

“We are striving for a simpler tiered pricing structure with a goal to to be even more accessible to all youth and our military and their families,” said Director Bill Martin.

Richmond, VA— The Valentine will operate under new admission prices starting July 1, 2015.

Adults are $10 per person and groups, seniors (55+) and students are $8 per person.  The new pricing structure includes free admission for all active duty military and children under the age of 18.

For many years, the Valentine has been an active member of the Blue Star Museum program, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2015. The Valentine will continue to participate in the Blue Star Museum program however the admission prices will continue throughout the year beyond Labor Day.

The free admission for military is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps – and up to five family members.

As a result of a board resolution in 1902 by the Board of Trustees, the Valentine has been free for all students in Richmond Public Schools. By expanding this to include free admission for all children under the age of 18, the Valentine will be open for even more children and their families to experience Richmond’s diverse array of stories.

The new admission price will grant access to all permanent and rotating exhibitions of the Valentine, including a guided tour of the 1812 John Wickham House and access to the Valentine Garden.  Currently the museum’s exhibitions are Creating History: The Valentine Family and Creation of a Museum, Edward V. Valentine Sculpture Studio, Signs of the Times,This is Richmond, Virginia, Made in Church Hill, Beard Wars and Classical Allure: Richmond Style. In Gear: Richmond Cycles is scheduled to open on August 27.

The Valentine recently merged with the First Freedom Center which opened to the public on January 16. The Valentine First Freedom Center exhibitions and monument located at 14 S. 14th Street will remain free and open to the public.

Operating hours for the Valentine and the Valentine First Freedom Center are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Both are closed to the public on Mondays except for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
