125th Anniversary

For over 125 years the Valentine has collected, preserved and interpreted the materials of Richmond’s life and history. Through our collections, exhibitions and programs, the Valentine reflects the broad issues and diverse communities that define the history of the Richmond region.

In April of 2024, we’ll honor this momentous milestone with a week of events celebrating not only the history of our museum but the history of the Richmond region too.

Exhibition Opening: "Turning Points: Richmond in the 1890s"

The turning basin in Richmond’s canal bordered by the five-story Gallego Flour Mills building, a railroad cars, and other industrial buildings.

Thirty years after the Civil War, a new generation took over Richmond’s segregated economic, municipal, social, and cultural institutions. Turning Point: Richmond in the 1890s details the tensions that arose during this tumultuous decade and its lasting effects on Richmond today.

On Wednesday, April 10th we will host an exhibition opening for our members.
