The Student Programs and Tours Manager has primary responsibility for coordinating student programs, student tour groups, teacher professional development and custom programs, both onsite at the Valentine and First Freedom Center, and offsite. Responsibilities include customer service, staff scheduling (Valentine Educators and Tour Guides), sales and reservations, program development and planning. S/he actively supports the Director of Public Programs and the Valentine’s marketing plan while working as an active team member in support of the goals of the Public Programs Department.

Valentine Educators conduct educational programs on and off site in accordance with the programs developed by the Valentine using high quality content and delivery. Valentine Educators will work approximately 3-9 hours per week, scheduled as needed for programs.

Valentine Tour Guides conduct Richmond History Tours that engage a diverse audience in learning about Richmond’s history on walking and bus tours. As ambassadors for the city and the Valentine Museum, Tour Guides are responsible for interpreting Richmond’s history for residents, visitors, students, and private groups, encouraging them to make new discoveries and historical connections through tours of the city’s sites and neighborhoods. Tour Guides work approximately 6-15 hours per month, scheduled as needed, including weekend and evening hours.
