Tour Guide

Status: Part Time/Non-exempt

Job Objective: Valentine Tour Guides conduct Richmond History Tours that engage a diverse audience in learning about Richmond’s history on walking and bus tours. As ambassadors for the city and the Valentine Museum, Tour Guides are responsible for interpreting Richmond’s history for residents, visitors, student and private groups, encouraging them to make new discoveries and historical connections tours of the city’s sites and neighborhoods. Tour Guides work approximately 6-15 hours per month, scheduled as needed.

Museum Exhibition Preparatory & Fabricator

General Responsibilities: The Museum Exhibition Preparatory & Fabricator will support the museum curators with secondary responsibilities supporting the facilities. This work will involve on-and off-site locations; packing and other duties as assigned. The Museum Exhibition Fabricator’s work is conducted in accordance with the museum’s official Collections Management Policy, adhering to the code of ethics advised by the American Alliance of Museums.

Museum Technician – Deaccession

Status: Part Time/Non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Collections

Grant Funded Position:         100%

General Responsibilities: The Museum Technician will support the Registrar by assisting with the preparation and disposition of items proposed for deaccession from the museum collection, consisting of the General Collection, Archives, Costume and Textile Collections. This work will involve inventory and tracking at both on-and off-site locations; data entry using collections management software; photography of objects; records management; packing and other duties as assigned. The Museum Technician’s work is conducted in accordance with the museum’s official Collections Management Policy, adhering to the code of ethics advised by the American Association of Museums.

Valentine Educators – Spanish Speaking

Visitor Services Associate (VSA)

Reports to: Visitor Services Manager

The Visitor Services Associate is the first impression for the museum and the museum store. He/she has responsibility for implementing the daily procedures at the front desk.  He/she is a primary source of access and communication within The Valentine. This person answers and directs phone calls or other inquires, processes admissions fees, takes and processes reservations for the public walking and bus tours, conducts sales in the museum store, helps to provide security for The Valentine by issuing badges and keeping logs for visitors to restricted areas, and provides tours of the 1812 Wickham House.  Weekend availability required.

Special Events Associate

Job Summary:

The Special Events Associate has responsibility for monitoring and managing on-site special events. He/she ensures a safe and positive experience for guests attending events. This person also monitors and enforces compliance with the terms of facility rental contracts and Valentine policies by guests and vendors. Security or special event experience desirable but not required. Evening and weekend availability required.
