Visitor Services & Volunteer Program Manager

The Visitor Services & Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for creating a welcoming and customer focused experience for all visitors to the Valentine. S/he manages the museum’s front desk staff at both locations (Valentine main campus and Valentine First Freedom Center). The Visitor Services & Volunteer Program Manager oversees the museum’s Volunteer and Internship programs and schedules adult group visits to the Valentine.

Visitor Services Associate (VSA)

The Visitor Services Associate is the first impression for the museum and the museum store. He/she has responsibility for implementing the daily procedures at the front desk. He/she is a primary source of access and communication within The Valentine. This person answers and directs phone calls or other inquires, processes admissions fees, takes and processes reservations for the public walking and bus tours, conducts sales in the museum store, helps to provide security for The Valentine by issuing badges and keeping logs for visitors to restricted areas, and provides tours of the 1812 Wickham House. Weekend availability required.

Valentine Tour Guides conduct Richmond History Tours that engage a diverse audience in learning about Richmond’s history on walking and bus tours. As ambassadors for the city and the Valentine Museum, Tour Guides are responsible for interpreting Richmond’s history for residents, visitors, students, and private groups, encouraging them to make new discoveries and historical connections through tours of the city’s sites and neighborhoods. Tour Guides work approximately 6-15 hours per month, scheduled as needed, including weekend and evening hours.
