The iconic Richmond department store, Miller & Rhoads, was founded in 1885. Like many stores of its kind, it began as a local dry-goods store but by 1923, it was the largest department store between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. Using costume material from the store’s founding through its closure, this edition of Collections Connections Live! will trace the store’s journey from humble dry-goods store to retail icon.
Did you know that museums typically have less than 10% of their collection on view at a time? Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the Valentine’s new storage and access spaces during this new series. View selections from the Valentine’s holdings currently not on exhibit and learn about the fascinating Richmond stories behind them.
Space is limited and registration is required. This is a ticketed event.
